Faith, Family, and Friendly Fire Place Brought Me Home

In the December 2024 edition of the Golden Acorn News, we ran a story on the book, Faith, Family, and Friendly Fire Place Brought Me Home, that Past President and son of Lauren Dean, C-912FA, Jim Dean has been working on for the last six years.

Jim is nearing completion and would like for our members to provide a show of interest in the book. Note this is not a pre-order but merely an indication of interest. Feel free to send a note to the 87th Infantry Division Legacy Association website at Contact Us in the left margin.

Painstaking research has gone into this unique, fairy-tale-like account. In 2019, tour-guide, Doug Mitchell, provided Jim with the declassified daily after action reports of the 87th Infantry Division and the 912th Field Artillery, These reports have been woven together with over 240 letters between his parents, 60+ photos with narrative captions (both from family albums and taken by Doug Mitchell, the meticulous records his father kept during his time in Europe and accounts of other 87th Division veterans.. Readers of this book will know exactly where the 87th and 912th were throughout the duration of combat which began in early December 1944 until the European armistice on May 8, 1945 and receive an exceptionally vivid detail about the actual price paid by our WW II Veterans in exchange for the many freedoms that we enjoy today.
